Blackjack Basic Rules

Blackjack is not a difficult game to play and those who have been playing it have learned how to follow the cards and pay attention to what is face up. The player goes head to head with only the dealer and no one else at the Blackjack table. The object of the game is to simply beat the dealer's hand that has a total that is more than dealer without going over the number 21. Sound's easy right? You'd be surprised how difficult this game can actually be.

The rules as stated above make playing this game easy. Plus, the dealer has rules of their own that are predefined at the beginning of the game. As each casino is slightly than the next, the dealer's rules may differ. One rule that is standard is that a dealer cannot draw a card if their hand equals 17 or more. If it is 16 or under, they can draw one more card. Of course, that could put them out, but that is all part of the game. The player can get as many cards as they want as long as they don't go 'bust' or over 21.

In order to count up their totals, players need to know how the cards rank. 2 through 9 are counted at their face value (2 = 2, 3 = 3, etc.). The 10, Jack, Queen, and King all have a value of 10. The Ace can be counted as eleven or one. So if you were holding a Jack and an Ace, that could equal 11, but considering the game you're playing, that would be a 21, which equals Blackjack. Suits do not matter in this game.

The dealer will deal out three cards: two the player and one to themselves. The player will look at their cards and then make a decision on what to do based on what they holding and what the dealer has sitting before them face up. The player can stand and take no more cards. The player can call 'hit' and be dealt another card. The player can double their bet and draw another card. And the player can split if the two cards they are holding have the same face value. This last option is somewhat rare.

If the player stands, hits or doubles and does not go over 21, then they are declared the winner if their number is over the dealer or if the dealer has 16 or under and must draw a third card and goes over. Blackjack is player friendly and one of the easiest games to learn. Mastering, however, takes a little more time.
