Considered
You’ve got the basics down and you know how to read
the cards fairly well. Now you need to start
winning more hands. You don’t need to be able to
bluff when playing Blackjack. You also don’t have
to worry about the spin of the wheel or reels like
you do in roulette and slots. Luck isn’t even
really a part of it, either. Just some good old
fashioned risk taking is all you need. This is the
one game where the player has an excellent chance of
beating the house. Here are three things to always
keep in mind when you are playing Blackjack.
Number 1:
Insurance should only be taken when it is absolutely
necessary. Because it’s you against the dealer, you
could have a bad hand, but they could have worse.
Even though knowing what cards the other people at
the table are holding, you need to keep your focus
on the dealer’s hand and no one else’s. Besides, if
you take the insurance, you’re really only betting
against yourself.
Number 2:
In the rate instances that you are dealt two cards
of the same face value, you have an option of double
your chance of winning, unless the cards happen to
be two that are equal to ten and giving you a 20.
You best stand pat with those!
Say for example you are dealt two 7s. That would be
a 14. You have the option of splitting the cards
and playing them separately. So you could play one
7 and another card and the other 7 and another card,
doubling your chance of getting a blackjack. You
will be required to bet as much on the second set of
cards as you did on the first in order to split them
this way.
Most people avoid splitting their cards, but there
is one instance in which it could be profitable. If
you have two Aces, two 7s or two 8s and the dealer’s
showing you a six or lower, go ahead and split your
cards and make the additional bet. More than likely
you are going to be dealt another card that will
improve your chances of beating the dealer splitting
them than keeping a 14 or a 16 and standing pat.
Number 3:
Lastly, don’t be afraid to double down on really
good cards. If you are sitting there with at least
18 points in your hand, don’t chance being hit
again. Go ahead and double down instead. Be
aggressive when you can. You may very well come out
on top.
